Modification to Iowa Code Does Not Use Retrospectively, Guidelines Iowa High Court

The Iowa Supreme Court figured out a change to the Iowa Code that enabled aggrieved staff members to pursue damages beyond those formerly allowed didn’t use retrospectively to a complainant’s claim for wrongful discharge.

Iowa Supreme Court Justice Matthew McDermott authored the June 9 viewpoint, where the court reversed a district court’s giving of summary judgment to Larry R. Hedlund, concluding that the 2019 Iowa Code area 70A.28( 5 )( a) didn’t use retrospectively to Hedlund’s claim for wrongful discharge under 70A.28, Iowa’s whistleblower-protection law.
